Well now that the 2015 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival is done and gone, it is time to move on to new projects, meet TAC, better known as Tin Can Allie. She is a 1966 Kenskill Trailer that we will be restoring. She was purchased last October and due to the holidays, birthdays and that dang day job, not much has gotten done, but at last the weather is nice, the wind has stopped and I have convinced my other half Boss Man that we need to get ‘er done. I wanna go glamping!
I was driving home from day job, stopped at a traffic light and happened to glance at my phone and there she was, cute as can be, advertised on a local Facebook page. Believe me, that was the last thing I had on my mind was finding her, see…”when you least expect it” as the saying goes, apparently it works with trailers as well as one’s love life. Anyway I immediately contacted the owner and drove straight over. It was love at first sight and a done deal, the next thing I knew, I was driving home with my 1966 Kenskill Trailer. Yep, I got a project, oh did I get a project.
When I bought her, she had no license plates, but we pulled her home anyway. The next week I decided to register her and off with my papers I went into AAA and you know what they told me?
She’s Junk
They said she was junk and they could not help me. Well at first I was a little shocked and offended, why they hadn’t even seen her, then I got real excited because I love junk, junk is good, to me junk equals treasures!! Ding, ding, ding! Whoooo Who I hit the mother of all junk and it was official, TAC was deemed as junk by the Department of Motor Vehicles. It don’t get more official than that! I was thrilled… until I learned that I had to stand in line at the DMV to get her “unjunked”, but that’s another story for another day. Anyway, come along as we restore this little cutie and fix her all up. She is a little rough around the edges, a little diamond in the rough, but she can be fixed, Boss Man said so. What a fun project! I am actually surprised Tin Can Alley was deemed junk. I watched the videos and she isn’t that bad… Love your ambition to transform her into a Glamper (love that too) and look forward to seeing the progress as you continue to doll her up and create a whole new “her”. Everyone can use an overhaul once in a while, so congrats for taking this one on.

Congrats on a great find! I’m a treasure seeker at heart, and have been on the lookout for a “diamond in the rough” glamper/office since last summer. After reading your post, I’m thinking I’ve been trying too hard to find one that’s just right. It seems they get snapped up pretty quick. When it’s meant to be, it will show up. Hi Cynthia and welcome to My Western Heart, yes they do get snapped up or worse, we had our heart set on a little cutie that did not require too much fixing up, on our way to pick her up, they called and changed there mind. From that point it took another 18 months until I found TAC, I am glad it worked out how it did I really love her, but I sure was upset that Christmas eve to get that call. Congrats on being the one who gets to give her an extreme makeover! I personally am a fan of ‘Glamping’- have you ever heard of Marie Bostwick? and I will be following your story with interest. Hopefully, the ‘junk’ status just left more room in the budget for fun accessories!
Hi Linda and thanks for stopping by My Western Heart…actually to get TAC “unjunked” it cost me around $200 bucks. How on earth the DMV can call your cute little trailer junk and charge you that much to “unjunk” her I will never know…talk about adding insult to injury…LOL…I can hardly wait to get done with the water damage and start doing the fun stuff, like curtains, paint etc…glad you will be coming along on this journey!

Thanks Delia! This is one of my best junk finds yet…it is right up with the green door I found laying in the dirt, with the really cool old hardware…I am still kicking myself for selling it. Love those diamonds in the rough, it is a thrill to find them. Thanks for stopping by much appreciated!

just bought a 2308 model Kenskill travel trailer a diamond in the rough. I stole really at the price I got it for not telling yet. floor does need repaired in the kitchen living room area previous owners had a water leak.
