Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada Recipe
Happy Cinco de Mayo and I hope you enjoy my Carne Asada Recipe! Every year, except this year I host a Cinco de Mayo party that just rocks and serve this delicious Carne Asada recipe.
I like to pair this meal with Cilantro lime rice, yummy refried beans topped with hot melted cheese and to wash it all down, my favorite hot summer day beer, Tecate with a slice of lime and a salted rimmed glass.
Ingredients for Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada
2 pounds of skirt steak, thinly sliced
1 large orange ~sliced
2 limes~ quartered
1 lemon~ thinly sliced
1 bunch of cilantro coarsely chopped
1 red onion~ thinly sliced
1 clove of garlic~ minced
Lawry’s seasoning salt~ This is my secret ingredient, you gots to have Lawry’s
1 cup of fresh orange juice
1/2 bottle of beer, my favorite Tecate (You will actually need 2 bottles)
1 large Ziplock bag
Favorite cooking music for me, I was listening to Darius Rucker on Pandora while making this, I just love him, I decided to give Willie the night off. Wink Wink
How To Assemble Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada
Take your skirt steak, and sprinkle both sides with Lawry’s seasoning salt and place in Ziplock
Next place the remaining ingredients, except 1 slice of lime, in the bag with the meat and give it a good mix. Squeeze the air out of the bag, zip it up tight and place in the fridge. Here is my mess fridge.
Now the important part, take the other ½ bottle of Tecate or perhaps a few more, the remaining lime slice, put on your favorite music, sit back and relax while this marinade does it’s thing.
I like to keep my carne asada in the fridge for at least 6 hours, turning every 1 -2 hours. You could even leave it in the fridge over night, I have done this for my Cinco de Mayo bash, it gives me time to do other things the day of the party. Once you are totally marinated, I mean once your carne asada is totally marinated it’s time for the grill.
How to Cook Your Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada
Grab another Tecate, some warm tortilla chips and yummy guacamole and head on out to the grill. Lay your carne asada over a medium heat or coals and give it about 20 minutes to cook, flipping once.
When it is cooked to your liking, remove from heat and cut in thin slices or small pieces.
How to Serve Your Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada
Have a festive table set with lots of somberos and papers flowers. Serve with warm flour or corn tortillas, cilantro lime rice, hot cheese topped refried beans and of course another Tecate. After all this is Cinco de Mayo, time to party and have a little fun!
Toppers for Cinco de Mayo Carne Asada
You might want to add fresh lettuce, tomatoes, more chopped cilantro, shredded cheese, chopped red onion, cucumber, fresh salsa and don’t forget the fresh crispy, ice cold radishes, they go so well with Mexican food. There are so many possibilities to using this meat, it can be placed on top of fresh crisp lettuce, served in a warm flour tortilla or alone next to some refried beans and cilantro lime rice. However you choose, have fun and enjoy this recipe from My Western Heart. Would love to hear your comments, let us know how you like to enjoy Cinco de Mayo, we would love to hear.

Sounds and looks delicious, Lisa. A quick question, for those of us who don’t eat beef or veal, can we substitute the beef with say mutton or lamb? Thanks.
Hi Vatsala, Great question, I have never tried mutton or lamb, but I have done this same thing with chicken breast. I bet lamb would be really good, let me know if you try it, I would love to hear how it turns out. Thanks for stopping by!
