Setting up a home aguaponic system is relatively easy, our frame was completed in about 1 hour. Recently I was at a class, totally unrelated to gardening, and as I do, I was talking to someone, and they told me about aquaponics. I had never heard of it, but I liked the concept immediately. I found this type of gardening so intriguing I had to get involved so I set out to our local pond store and I came home with everything for setting up our home aquaponic system except fish and plants.
So we unloaded a rather large box of metal pieces, nuts and bolts that would need to be assembled as the frame for our system. Let me tell you, I was capital “O”, OVERWHELMED! I did not inherit any “mechanical genes”, apparently my brother got all of those, so needless to say I was worried that I was in over my head but I decided to give it a try. So me and the 8 year old were at it once again, and guess what? We did it!

Setting Up Aquaponic System
As my dad use to say, “honey, if all else fails, read the directions”. We read the directions and we built the frame for our home aquaponic system, we were estatic! We felt such a sense of accomplishment, I had never tackled something like this before let alone with an 8 year old.
On the first day, and only 1 hour of time invested into setting up a home aquaponics system, we got the frame put together. Here’s our almost finished product.

We still have a way to go but we are hooked and looking forward to setting up the rest of the home aquaponic system, getting our fish and planting our garden. It has been a learning process and a great sense of accomplishment for me and the 8 year old. I know I said I would show you the finished product but you will have to wait for one more post, hang in there it will be worth it. Good things take time.
